Check Duplicate Lines Before Splitting a Scanned Receipt
Compare a scanned receipt line by line with the photo before assigning it.
Compare a scanned receipt line by line with the photo before assigning it. A repeated line may be two genuine items or one scanning error; the image and totals decide.
First reconcile the item subtotal, then check quantity markers, discounts and extra charges. Keep legitimate duplicates. Remove an erroneous duplicate and correct its quantity or price before sharing. If the photo is unclear, enter the verified amounts manually rather than guessing.
Worked example
The photo shows lines of 18, 12 and 6 units: subtotal 36. A scan repeats the 12-unit line, giving 48. Removing that erroneous duplicate restores 36. With the 6-unit line shared, A owes 21 and B 15.
| Allocation | Amount |
|---|---|
| A | 21.00 |
| B | 15.00 |
| Total | 36.00 |
Record the result
Agree the rule first, then enter the calculated amounts and actual payer in SPLIIT Pro. Assign each amount to the relevant people and review the total before sharing the breakdown. The private expense group keeps related bills and recorded partial repayments together. Friends can read shared breakdowns without installing the app; they do not edit your group. Transfer money through another method and record repayment only after it arrives.
These are illustrative units, not current prices. Use the actual bill, currency and agreement; the calculation is explained here, not promised as an automatic feature. Scanning needs a connection and review. The app is free to start with usage limits; Pro adds capacity and removes ads.
Frequently asked questions
Is a matching grand total enough to trust a receipt scan?
No. Two line errors can cancel in the total while assigning costs to the wrong people. Check the relevant lines, quantities and owners as well as the total. AI scanning requires a connection and human review; it is not a guarantee of accurate item assignment.
