How do you split the cost of a subscription between roommates?
Divide each plan only among the people on it, rather than splitting the total bill evenly. Someone on two of four services should pay less. Assign each line to its users and the per-person figure follows from that.
What is a fair way to split a family plan that costs less per person?
Divide the family price by the number of people using it, not by what an individual plan would cost. The discount is the reason the group exists, so everyone should get an equal share of it rather than one person keeping it.
Can I use this for a monthly cost rather than a one-off bill?
Yes. Each month is its own split, so a plan that changed price or a person who joined halfway through is handled by that month having different numbers. The history keeps the earlier months as they actually were.
How do I keep track of who has already paid me back?
The split records what each person owes for that month, so you have a number to point at instead of a memory. Settling itself happens in whatever payment app your group already uses; nothing moves money inside this one.
What if someone joins or leaves the plan mid-month?
Split that month with the people who were actually on it. There is no automatic proration, so for a half month it is usually simplest to agree a figure and enter it as its own line rather than pretending the maths is exact.
