Reconcile a Trip Booking Deposit with the Final Payment
Record the booking deposit and remaining payment as parts of one total, without counting the deposit again in the final invoice.
Record the booking deposit and remaining payment as parts of one total, without counting the deposit again in the final invoice. Provider receipts may show both paid-to-date and amount due.
Read whether the final receipt shows the full booking value or just the balance. Keep the actual payer of each installment. Assign the agreed shares across the combined total, then subtract what each person already paid. A schedule of two payments does not mean there were two complete bookings.
Worked example
Total booking: 300 units, split equally among three people. A pays a 90 deposit and B the remaining 210. Each owes 100. A still owes 10, C owes 100, and B should receive 110. Paid amounts and shares both total 300.
| Allocation | Amount |
|---|---|
| A | 100.00 |
| B | 100.00 |
| C | 100.00 |
| Total | 300.00 |
Record the result
Agree the rule first, then enter the calculated amounts and actual payer in SPLIIT Pro. Assign each amount to the relevant people and review the total before sharing the breakdown. The private expense group keeps related bills and recorded partial repayments together. Friends can read shared breakdowns without installing the app; they do not edit your group. Transfer money through another method and record repayment only after it arrives.
These are illustrative units, not current prices. Use the actual bill, currency and agreement; the calculation is explained here, not promised as an automatic feature. Scanning needs a connection and review. The app is free to start with usage limits; Pro adds capacity and removes ads.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enter the full invoice after recording the deposit?
Only if you replace or reconcile the earlier entry. Adding a 300-unit invoice to an already recorded 90-unit deposit would create a false 390-unit expense. Keep a clear record of the two actual payments against the same 300-unit booking.
