Record a Partial Repayment After Venmo or a Bank Transfer
A payment service moves money; an expense record explains the remaining obligation.
A payment service moves money; an expense record explains the remaining obligation. Record only the transfer actually received, and do not treat sending a request as a completed repayment.
Confirm the transfer amount and recipient through your usual service. Deduct it from the agreed balance, keeping currencies separate. SPLIIT Pro does not send money or connect a bank account to verify a transfer. Partial repayments belong against the existing obligation, not as another meal expense.
Worked example
B owes A 45 units and sends 20 through a separate payment method. Remaining balance: 25. After a later confirmed transfer of 25, the obligation is settled. A request for the second transfer leaves the balance at 25 until payment arrives.
| Allocation | Amount |
|---|---|
| Received | 20.00 |
| Remaining | 25.00 |
| Total | 45.00 |
Record the result
Agree the rule first, then enter the calculated amounts and actual payer in SPLIIT Pro. Assign each amount to the relevant people and review the total before sharing the breakdown. The private expense group keeps related bills and recorded partial repayments together. Friends can read shared breakdowns without installing the app; they do not edit your group. Transfer money through another method and record repayment only after it arrives.
These are illustrative units, not current prices. Use the actual bill, currency and agreement; the calculation is explained here, not promised as an automatic feature. Scanning needs a connection and review. The app is free to start with usage limits; Pro adds capacity and removes ads.

Frequently asked questions
Does marking a repayment in SPLIIT Pro transfer money?
No. It records your confirmation that money arrived through another method. Check the payment service before marking it. A payment request, pending transfer or screenshot alone should not be treated as completed receipt of funds.
