Switch Expense Apps Without Importing Old History
Close or agree the old balances before starting fresh, or bring over a clearly labeled opening amount manually.
Close or agree the old balances before starting fresh, or bring over a clearly labeled opening amount manually. Do not recreate every historic charge and also carry its final balance.
Save accessible records from the old tool first. Agree who owes whom and keep each currency separate. SPLIIT Pro does not promise imports from Splitwise, Splid or Tricount. If you carry a manual opening amount, document its source and choose a representation that matches the actual obligation.
Worked example
The old record says B owes A 25 units. A new shared expense is 30, paid by A, split equally. B’s new share is 15, so B’s combined obligation is 40. Re-entering old expenses as well as the 25 balance would duplicate history.
| Allocation | Amount |
|---|---|
| Opening balance | 25.00 |
| New share | 15.00 |
| Total | 40.00 |
Record the result
Agree the rule first, then enter the calculated amounts and actual payer in SPLIIT Pro. Assign each amount to the relevant people and review the total before sharing the breakdown. The private expense group keeps related bills and recorded partial repayments together. Friends can read shared breakdowns without installing the app; they do not edit your group. Transfer money through another method and record repayment only after it arrives.
These are illustrative units, not current prices. Use the actual bill, currency and agreement; the calculation is explained here, not promised as an automatic feature. Scanning needs a connection and review. The app is free to start with usage limits; Pro adds capacity and removes ads.

Frequently asked questions
Can I import a Splitwise or Splid export into SPLIIT Pro?
No such import is promised. Preserve the old record, agree a cutoff date and start new expenses in SPLIIT Pro. A manual opening amount needs an explanatory note and must not duplicate the expenses that produced it.
